<p>Most individuals learned at a young age that carrots are one of the best vegetables to eat for maintaining healthy eyesight.  This is true because carrots are high in beta-carotene which is turned into Vitamin A by the liver.  Vitamin A is known to play a role in sustaining normal vision.  But they should be eaten every day if you want to see effects—don’t just expect results from eating them once.  Also, it is important to know that it’s a normal effect of aging for vision to decline over time, and sometimes no matter how healthy your diet is, your eyesight will still decrease.<span id="more-326"></span></p>
<p>Eggs are another food that will improve eyesight over time.  They contain sulphur centered materials, which aid in preventing the development of cataracts.  Eggs are easy to incorporate into the diet and contain other nutrients that are needed for proper health such as protein.</p>
<p>Carrots aren’t the only vegetables that maintain normal vision.  Dark leafy green vegetables should be consumed on a daily basis as well.  They provide the body with an antioxidant called lutein, which has been claimed to assist with reducing the risk of age-related macular degeneration.  This is the main cause of vision loss in elderly people so one should begin eating leafy greens regularly  at an early age.  Despite the antioxidants, they contain other essential nutrients as well.</p>
<p>Avocados are extremely healthy fruits that improve eye health.  People tend to steer away from them because of their fat content, but the fats they contain are <em>healthy</em> fats.  They contain a high amount of the antioxidant lutein, higher than any other fruit.  Avocados also increase the absorbtion of cartenoids (which turn into Vitamin A) from other foods.  Consuming even a small amount of them with carrots or spinach will provide optimum nutrition for your eyes.</p>
<p>Most fish contain nutrients that are important for the functioning of your eyes.  The downfall is that many of them contain chemicals like mercury and aren’t always safe to eat.  Salmon, on the other hand is safe and contains Vitamin A, D and omega-3 fatty acids.  These nutrients benefit the brain as well which is why salmon can be referred to as “brain food.”</p>
<p>Another antioxidant that is extremely helpful in improving and maintaining eyesight is called a flavanoid.  Foods that contain flavanoids are dark chocolate, dark colored berries (blueberries, blackberries, cranberries, dark grapes, dark cherries, etc…), and red wine.  Flavanoids protect blood vessels found in the eyes as well as the heart.  These foods also possess Vitamin C which provides plenty of other benefits.</p>
<p>If you are already eating normal servings of these foods, be sure you are avoiding unhealthy food as well!  Sugar, trans-fats, and refined flour can all contribute to vision loss.  They are found in many foods today so it is easy to forget about them.</p>

From its usage of warding off evil spirits in  Asia, to its use as a bactericide for British soldiers in World War I,  the human race has been able to reap the restorative properties of  Allium sativum, otherwise known as garlic.</p>
<p>Scientists have known for years that garlic has a high potential to  prevent a type of heart disease known as cardiomyopathy. However, even  though cardiomyopathy is the leading cause of death in diabetics, there  has been little research done to see if diabetes patients with  cardiomyopathy specifically benefit from garlic oil.<span id="more-306"></span></p>
<p>The vast majority (80%) of deaths in diabetic patients is due to  cardiomyopathy, a disorder known to inflame the heart muscles and cause  deterioration in heart function. In comparison, those with diabetes have  twice the risk of getting heart disease than other people. It is  because of this that blood sugar control is not the only concern in  patients with diabetes.</p>
<p>In a recently published article found in the Journal of Agriculture and  Food Chemistry, garlic oil was found to have significant potential to  prevent cardiomyopathy in diabetic patients. In this study done in the  China Medical University, researchers used two groups of lab rats with  diabetes as test subjects. Researchers fed the first group of rats corn  oil, while the second was given garlic oil. The group of rats given the  garlic oil showed significant improvement to protection of their hearts.</p>
<p>This study goes to show the reparative properties of garlic. <strong>Raw garlic  on its own contains well over 100 biologically useful secondary  metabolites including</strong>, but not limited to allin, allinase, ajoene,  dithiins, and diallysulfide. Garlic oil contains at least twenty of  these properties, which aid in a range of factors from decreasing  bacterial growth and inhibiting mutagenesis in cells (which is why  garlic and garlic oil aids in cancer prevention).</p>
<p>Of these compounds,  the most notable for those with high risk factors for heart disease are  compounds such as dithiins and ajoenes which contain antithrombotic  properties. In laymen’s terms, it helps to prevent blood clots from  forming by creating anticoagulants and helping to thin the blood.  Specifically, garlic oil helps prevent platelets from clumping together  in living creatures. This reduces blood clotting and blood pressure in  those who eat garlic oil.</p>
<p>Some other exceptional properties of garlic: this bulbous plant has also  been used to control blood sugar spikes in diabetic patients, helps to  dilate blood vessels, and has even been known to increase a man’s sexual  performance and enjoyment.</p>

Thus a person who weights 60 kilos should drink about 7 cups water every day. Very simple arithmetic.<span id="more-284"></span></p>
<p>One person who supports this theory told me one thing: If you feel hungry, then drink a glass of water or two &#8211; you are more likely to be thirsty! It&#8217;s easy to check if it&#8217;s true when lunch time is not soon and you feel that you are already a bit hungry. Drink water &#8211; it really works! And it will help you get rid of a thought that only some tasty (i.e. sugar and calorie containing) drink can save you from starving between meals. To make it more useful add some lemon in it (it would be a great natural antioxidant).</p>
